Sungai Lalang - Kedah Sightseeing


Sungai Lalang town ( 双 溪 拉 浪 ) is located in Kuala Muda district of Kedah and it is about  7 km to the north of Sungai Petani town and to the south of Bedong. Sungai is a Malay word for river while Lalang on the other hands is referring to the wild long and sharp weedy grass.

Sungai Lalang has develops light industrial estates namely Kawasan Perusahaan Sungai Lalang and Kawasan Perusahaan Ringan Desa Aman.

One of the long established and famous factory situated within the row of pre-war houses is the Thong Guan Factory, manufacturing the rich-aroma roasted coffee beans and tea. The factory established since 1942 by its late founder, Mr. Ang Thong Guan. These products are popular in Malaysia among the local "Mamak (Indian-Muslim)" stalls in the northern region that has for decades getting their regular supply of the "888 Brand" coffee and tea powder.
